Writing A Press Release

Writing press releases is the internet marketing method you want to learn about if you are serious about making sales on the internet. Press release is a story that tells the public about your business, new products, or services. Some people say it's something between an article and an ad, but more objective than a promotional copy. Press releases can generate a substantial exposure of your business and products which results in increased volume of sales. Imagine having your press release distributed to thousands of publishers and media like CNN or even Google News. Press releases also generate static links to your website which results in higher search engine rankings. You could gain 1000s of one-way links by doing a few press releases about a product you are promoting on your website if it's done the right way. Below I have put together a simple press release guide that will get you started with this great internet marketing method.

How Do You Construct A Press Release?

Below is a simple example of a properly constructed press release.

Release instructions
In this section you should specify when your press release can be released e.g. "For immediate release" or "for release on November 30, 2007"

Headline
Your headline should be short and grabbing attention. Do not place exclamation marks or anything that would talk about selling. Do not include any hype in it either. and make sure your keyword is in the head line.

Summary
In this section you should outline what is your press release going to be about. It's like an extension to your headline but a bit more specific and includes the main idea.

Body
Your should always start your first sentence with the format below:

Your body should not have more than 500 words. Keep each paragraph only a few lines long. Place double space between each paragraph. Never use pronouns like: I & Me, unless you are quoting someone or referring to yourself in the third person, this will prevent your press release from getting rejected.   Always include your subject or key word in the beginning of the body and at least mention your keyword between 5 - 10 times thruoghout the body and  the end of the body. This will help your press release be spidered easier on the search engines to be found by searches.

Further information
This is where you will include your website link and let your readers know how to gain more information. For example, you could include your phone number also.

About
Give some more information about your business or company. Usually one sentence.

Contact information
This is usually for the use of the company whom you are submitting to. Include:

Contact Person
Company Name
Phone
Fax
URL
email address

Remember to skip a line between sections and save in a generic format, such as a plain text file.

What You Should Know About Press Releases

Press release are a great way to bring in high quality traffic to your websitel. You can either submit a free press release or you can spend a little money and submit a paid press release.

The difference between a paid and a free one is simple. A free press release will not get as much attention, and it might not be submit anywhere. Also some free press release places will not allow you to place a link back to your website. This is no way though means free press releases are not a good way to get traffic. Free press releases are still a great way to draw traffic, and I use them all the time, but paid ones of course will be better.

A paid press releases might be submitted to Google news, Yahoo news, MSN news etc. It can also be better optimized for search engine rankings, and you can also place keywords and a link back to your site on your press release.

Plus Side With Free Press Releases

   * Does not cost any money
   * Can sometimes link back to your site
   * Can put contact information
   * Can get ranked high in search engines

Down Side With Free Press Releases

   * Sometimes you cannot link back to your site
   * You cannot place keywords
   * Will not get ranked as high as a paid one
   * Will get less traffic

Plus side With Paid Press Releases

   * Can link back to your site
   * Gets a lot of traffic
   * Ranks high up in Google
   * Can use keywords
   * Can place contact information
   * Placed in Google and Yahoo news

Down Side With Paid Press Releases

   * They can cost $5 - $100
   * They cannot sell something

More tips on how to write a press release

The best way to write a press release is to follow the same exact steps of how you would go about writing articles. First go out and research your topic. Know what you want to write about inside and out, and make sure you give details, and a lot of information.

The best time to usually write a press release is when something new happens that is “news” worthy. If you write a press release and have a harder time getting it accepted, well a paid press release comapred to a free press release most places let a lot more go.

How To Get Your Press Release Ranked

As I mention earlier above and a few very good ways to get your press released ranked high up in the search engines.
